Immediate Denture Extraction Instructions

  • Bite on your immediate denture for 30-40 MINUTES to put pressure on extraction site
  • NO eating or drinking for at least ONE HOUR
  • After ONE HOUR take Panadol, Panadeine or Nurofen. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN
  • No alcohol or smoking for 48 HOURS
  • Quite of often you will get bleeding after the extractions if you do, bite down on the immediate denture for another 30-40 MINUTES. If this does not help, take the denture out and bite on the gauze provided for 20-30 MINUTES then put the denture back in
  • Wear the immediate denture for 24 HOURS straight, only taking it out if you need to due to bleeding as described above. After 24 HOURS take the denture out and wash under water, gently rinse mouth with a warm salt rinse (1/2-1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) for a minute, then put denture back in and wear for another 24 HOURS. You want to sleep with the immediate denture in for the first TWO NIGHTS
  • From DAY THREE start taking the denture out every night and use a warm salt rinse 4 times a day, after every meal and before you go to bed
